Jamie Dornan has been chosen as the new Christian Grey for the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, The Hollywood Reporter website is reporting on Wednesday. Variety and People also confirmed the casting of Dornan.
The Hollywood Reporter said that negotiations were now underway to finalize the deal.
There were no further details, but the trade publication has been claiming that Dornan has been a "frontrunner" since Charlie Hunnam backed out of the project on Oct. 14.
It further reported that Dornan did a screen test on Friday with actor Billy Magnussen.
Focus Features, the film's distributor, did not immediately comment on the report. Also, Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James, who has broken much of the casting news on her Twitter feed, continues to be mum about who might get the key role.
Dornan is a former Calvin Klein model who once dated Keira Knightley. The Northern Irish actor played Sheriff Graham on the first season of Once Upon a Time.
Dornan will join the cast as the kinky billionaire alongside Dakota Johnson, who has been cast as Anastasia Steele. Production is scheduled to begin Nov. 1.
The movie is due out Aug. 1, 2014.
