WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- At times, it sounded like a party inside the Kids for the Cure tent. For Jonathan it was. It's his 12th birthday.

"We decided to run the race for the cure around the main thing for the birthday party," said Jonathan Hardegree.

"Jonathan's grandmother is a breast cancer survivor. She's been going through treatment for breast cancer for the past couple of years," said his mom, Maria.

Jonathan invited seven of his friends. Some of them have been touched by breast cancer.

"My Aunt, she had breast cancer for a while and she's getting better now," said Burke Swanson, 12.

Jordan Sims, 8, insisted on participating in the race for the second year in a row. Jordan plans to become a pediatrician and is finding inspiration at the race.

"Basically, I want to find a cure and I know all these people here want to do the same," Jordan said.

Many of the kids said, while they're running this course, they're going to be thinking of a world without breast cancer.
