Point to Point

The weather should cooperate again with this year's Middleburg Point to Point. Clouds will be increasing but the showers should hold off until after the races are over.

The race is Sunday at Glenwood Park in Middleburg. Just take 50 west and turn right at the Red Fox Inn and follow that road for maybe two miles and the entrance for the course will be on your right on a curve. The races run from 1 PM - 5PM and are run around a course of obstacles not just in a circle on a track. Tickets cost ten dollars at the gate. Proceeds benefit Glenwood Park and Loudoun Health Care. Don't be afraid to dress up a bit. Ties and jackets are the rule not the exception. These races have been held at Glenwood Park since the 1930s. The land was donated by Daniel Sands who was the Middleburg Hunt Master for forty years. The park is quite possibly the most spectator friendly course in the country as the horses never go out of view.  Some races are two miles long. The feature race is race number six. The winner of this race gets to keep a cup that is so large it can hold a case of champagne. That's right a case. Go early and poke around the quaint town of Middleburg. There are great antique and art shops. There is a great butcher shop in an old bank building across the street from the Red Fox Inn. It's called Home Farm and has all organic meats. Go upstairs and try a homemade milk shake. I hope to see you there. I am a tailgate judge once again.
