Bastad, Sweden (Sports Network) - Seeded players Viktor Troicki and Fernando Verdasco highlighted Tuesday's first-round winners at the Swedish Open.

The sixth-seeded Serbian Troicki handled Brazil's Joao Souza 6-4, 6-2, while the eighth-seeded Spanish left-hander Verdasco topped Swedish wild card Andreas Vinciguerra 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) on the red clay at Bastad Tennis Stadium. The 32-year-old Vinciguerra was the back-to-back Bastad runner-up in 1999 and 2000.

Verdasco is fresh off a run into his first-ever Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez beat Czech Jan Hajek 7-6 (7-4), 6-1; Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker dismissed Argentine qualifier Diego Sebastian Schwartzman 6-2, 6-4; Spaniard Albert Ramos rolled past German qualifier Julian Reister 6-3, 6-3; Slovenian Blaz Kavcic erased Romanian lucky-loser Marius Copil 6-4, 6-1; and Italian Filippo Volandri drubbed Estonian Jurgen Zopp 6-1, 6-2.

Additional wins came for Swiss qualifier Henri Laaksonen and German Jan- Lennard Struff, who bested Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-3, 6-3. Stakhovsky shocked Roger Federer at Wimbledon two weeks ago.

This week's top seeds are former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych and Nicolas Almagro, who was last year's Bastad runner-up to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer. Almagro titled here in 2010 and was also a runner-up in 2007.

The big Czech Berdych, a Bastad finalist in 2005 and 2008, will face Argentine Martin Alund in the second round, while Almagro will open his stay against his fellow Spaniard Garcia-Lopez on Thursday.

The winner of this $560,000 event will collect $100,000.
