COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- A disaster hit Maryland's campus before Hurricane Sandy could. That's because head coach Randy Edsall announced Sunday that freshman quarterback Caleb Rowe is out for the season with an ACL injury. That leaves the Terps without an eligible quarterback on the roster.

Rowe is the fourth signal caller to go down for the Terps this season. CJ Brown, Perry Hills, and Devin Burns all were lost before last week's game against Boston College. Two sources tell Capital 9 Sports Blog that Rowe was injured in the fourth quarter during the play before he threw the game clinching interception.

This is a big blow for a young Maryland team that has proven the doubters, myself included, wrong with their play this season. They have overcome adversity so far, but it will be hard to bounce back from losing your last legit passer.

Edsall has announced that the team plans to switch to their two emergency quarterbacks, linebacker Shawn Petty and tight end Brian McMahon. Petty will start this Saturday against Georgia Tech.

The offense looked bad last week with the fourth string quarterback. Can't imagine it gets any better with a linebacker under center. The poor performance of the running game this season will need to improve for Maryland to have a chance.

Last week, I jokingly ended the blog asking if Stefon Diggs could throw. Now I am seriously asking, can he?
