HP Expanded Battery Recall - Fire Hazard

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Hewlett Packard issued a significant warning and expanded recall over certain notebook batteries.

The company is calling back an additional 162,000 lithium ion batteries. They can overheat, rupture, catch fire and cause burns.

HP first issued a recall back in 2009 and followed with another recall in 2010. There have been at least 40 more incidents reported since the 2010 recall. Issues like, smoke inhalation, reports of burns and property damage.

CPSC Recall Notice: Model Numbers and Barcodes

HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario, HP and HP Compaq are among the models affected.

The company reminds you to check your notebook batteries. Even if you were told your battery was not involved, you should still double check to make sure it is not among the model numbers and barcodes included in the expanded call back.
