RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A three-judge panel is weighing a bid to broaden the appeal of a former University of Virginia lacrosse player who was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend.

The Court of Appeals for Virginia heard arguments Tuesday from an attorney for George W. Huguely V, who was convicted in the May 2010 beating death of Yeardley Love.

The judges have already agreed to consider two trial errors claimed by Huguely's attorneys. But attorney Paul Clement urged the panel to consider other issues his attorneys raised after the Chevy Chase, Md., man was convicted in Charlottesville in February 2012.

The judges did not immediately rule.

Huguely is serving a 23-year prison term. Love was from Cockeysville, Md., a Baltimore suburb.

Members of both families attended the hearing in Richmond.
