Southbound I-95 reopens after fatal crash

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- A person died in a crash on Interstate 95 on Thursday afternoon, Virginia State Police said. 

A 2007 Ford Focus pulled off and parked on the right shoulder of southbound I-95. Numerous witnesses said the driver of the Ford Focus stepped out of his vehicle directly in the path of a tractor-trailor. The tractor-trailer was unable to stop. The adult male died on the scene, police said. 

State police are still in the process of notifying the man's next of kin.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured in the crash.

It happened at around 1:11 p.m., at the 146 mile marker in Stafford County, police said. 

State police cleared the scene and re-opened the lanes to through traffic.
