RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Rival Democrats running for lieutenant governor have filed their petitions to qualify for the ballot in the party's June 11 primary.

State Sen. Ralph Northam tendered petitions bearing 14,703 signatures statewide to the State Board of Elections. Former U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra reported submitting 20,630.

A minimum of 10,000 statewide is required with at least 400 from each of Virginia's 11 congressional districts.

At least seven Republicans are vying for the office. The nominee will be chosen in a mid-May statewide convention in Richmond.
