FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WUSA) -- Fredericksburg police say that a man who was pushed at his house by a stranger, hit his attacker with his handheld oxygen machine on Saturday. The attacker may be a person of interest in another case in Virginia.

According to police, a 67-year-old man was taking the trash out to his backyard on Morningside Drive on Saturday night when he saw another man in the yard and confronted him. The stranger pushed the homeowner back into the house, according to police.

The homeowner then reportedly struck the stranger in the head with his handheld oxygen machine. Police say the stranger then fled further into the house and the homeowner walked to a neighbor's home to call 911.

When police arrived at the home, they didn't find the man and they say that cash was missing from the home.

Police say the suspect was described as a white male in his 50s, approximately 5'8" tall and under 200 pounds. He wqas wearing a dark blue or black sweatshirt and jeans.

According to police, detectives are investigating the possibility that the suspect in this case may be a person of interest wanted for questioning in the double homicide that occurred in Fauquier County. The person of interest in the deaths of Nelson and Ethel Slack is 60-year-old John Wesley Jeffries. He is wanted by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office for crimes such as abduction, strangling and malicious wounding, deputies said. He is also entered as a sexually violent offender and he is considered armed and dangerous, deputies said.
