Police Investigating Sexual Assault In Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) - Alexandria Police are investigating a sexual assault by the intersection of Van Dorn Street and Courtney Avenue.

On Thursday, October 11 at around 11:30 P.M., a 20-year-old woman was approached by a man with a knife.  The man demanded money from the victim and she told the suspect that she didn't have any.  The man reportedly grabbed the victim and pulled her over a guardrail, into a bunch of bushes, and sexually assaulted her. After doing so, the suspect ran away north towards S. Pickett Street.  The victim was not seriously injured.

 The suspect is being described as Hispanic in his late twenties or early thirties.  He reportedly stands at about 5'7" and weighs around 150 pounds, with short black hair and no facial hair.

Police say the man was wearing a dark brown t-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and black framed glasses. 

Police ask for anyone with information about this incident or who might have been in the area to call the Criminal Investigations Section at 703.746.6711.  Detectives would like to remind witnesses that they can remain anonymous.
