Southern California authorities are investigating the death of a newborn girl whose body was found Thursday on a conveyor belt at a recycling center.
An employee sorting materials at the Burrtec Waste Industries plant in Victorville discovered the infant wrapped in a blanket about 11:30 a.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said. An autopsy was scheduled.
"Until we know more, it's a death investigation and not classified as a homicide," sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman told the San Bernardino Sun.
The public was asked to help identify the newborn's mother and contact authorities if they know of anyone who recently gave birth and did not have her baby.
