CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's chief prosecutor says seven people have been killed and 61 injured in protests following presidential elections in which the opposition candidate is demanding a recount.

Prosecutor Luisa Ortega did not provide any details about the deaths or injuries, nor their location or date, or how they occurred.

She said the seven killed were humble members of the working class, a suggestion that the opposition might be to blame.

The late Hugo Chavez's chosen successor, Nicolas Maduro, won the election by a margin of 50.8 percent to 49 percent over Henrique Capriles.

Capriles is demanding a recount and there protests backing that demand across the country on Monday.
