FAIRFIELD, CA (NEWS 10) - Someone stole a Fairfield man's only means of transportation.

What makes Jerry Ferguson's story so frustrating is that he's a disabled vet on a fixed income and unable to drive car or ride a standard bike.

For the past two years, Ferguson counted on his adult tricycle to get to and from church and the store.

Someone stole the trike and the Bible in its bike basket Wednesday evening when he parked in front of his garage to run inside so he could put away his groceries.

"As soon as I went outside, it was gone," said Ferguson. "I was like 'Man. I cannot believe it.'"

He was planning to head to Bible study when it was taken.

Now that someone stole his bike, Ferguson is at a serious loss.

"I didn't know it meant so much until I didn't have it," said Ferguson. He still has trouble with his balance. An accident in 2003 left him with traumatic brain injury.

But his tricycle gave Ferguson independence -- the ability to go where he wanted and needed to go.

"I want to do things for myself," said Ferguson.

He hopes whoever took it will return it --unless he says-- that person needs it more than he does.
