PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - Twenty-four of the nation's top soldiers are competing in the Army's annual "Best Warrior" competition this week at Fort Lee.
Twelve major Army commands are represented in the competition for the titles of U.S. Army Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year. Three Virginia-based soldiers are among the competitors.
The competition begins Wednesday at the Petersburg base. Competitors will be challenged on their Army aptitude in urban warfare simulations, physical fitness and battle drills. Each will also go before a selection board that will evaluate appearance, military bearing and knowledge of Army topics.
Winners will be announced Friday.
