WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9) -- The Boston Marathon bombings, ricin laced letters and now the explosion at a West, Texas fertilizer plant, tragic events just days apart.

With so many disturbing images of what's going on in  the world, it's easy to become emotionally overwhelmed.

Dr. Hope Hill, Associate Professor of Psychology at Howard University says even if you're not in the community where the tragedy occured you can still be affected.

Dr. Hill says it's important for parents to limit how much children see. She says this is a good time to get kids involved with projects that seem helpful such as making cards for victims.
