CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two of the dogs that are suspected to have attacked a 5-year-old girl last night have been euthanized police said.

The condition of the 5-year-old girl who was attacked by at least one of three dogs in Md. has improved, police said.

The attack occurred on the 8600 block of Billingsley Road in White Plains.

Police responded to the call on April 3 at approximately 6:00 P.M. The girl was supposed to be under the supervision of her mother's boyfriend at the time of the attack. When officers arrived, they found the girl lying on the ground in the backyard of her house and was suffering from multiple dog bites and severe lacerations, officials said in a press release.

She was flown to Children's National Medical Center in Washington.

According to a preliminary investigation, the boyfriend of the girls mother was getting ready to leave the house when he found her outside the dogs nearby. One of the dogs was an English bulldog and the other was a Presa Canario. A third dog, another Presa Canario, was found inside a locked kennel in the backyard. It is unknown at this point if the girl let the dogs out of the kennel or if they were already out. It is also not known whether both dogs attacked her of just one, police said.

Detectives are still investigating how long the girl had been out back before she was discovered.

Anyone who may have additional information is requested to call Det. John Elliott at (301) 609-6515.
