SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- In Silver Spring the cost just keeps going up on that new transit center because of questionable work by the contractor. Now, the county executive is asking for even more.
At the county council meeting this morning, a unanimous vote by members has approved 7.5 million more in funding the Silver Spring Transit Center, a project which is already over budget.
However, just because they voted for it, does not mean they like doing it.
Once council member said, "The dollars that we approved today had nothing to do with fixing what needs to be fixed. As to who bears the responsibility for that, I am afraid that will ultimately be decided by the courts."
The county puts the blame solely on the contractor. But, the contractor blames the county for the delay.
The county says its top priority is to get the transit center fixed and open, even if that means paying the heavy price first with taxpayer dollars.
