WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Pepco says it is preparing for the worst case scenario ahead of Wednesday's snowstorm.

Crews from Alabama and Georgia have begun to arrive in the D.C. area to assist in recovery efforts, Pepco said in a press release.

The release also stated that more than 450 line contractors and an additional 300 tree contractors are on hand.

"We are preparing for the possibility of widespread outages, and we ask our customers to prepare now as well," said Thomas H. Graham, president, Pepco Region.

Heavy, wet snow wreaked havoc on the power system during the blizzards of 2010, as trees gave way under the weight of snow.

Since then, PEPCO says its has trimmed trees along more than 5,000 miles of power right-of-ways.

"We are prepared," said spokesman Marcus Beal.

To report outages and/or downed wires call Pepco at 1-877-737-2662.
