Man Steals Car And Drags Metro Officer

FAIRFAX, VA (WUSA)--Metro Transit Police say one of their officers fired a shot at a suspect driving a stolen car as he dragged the officer while fleeing the scene. 

Police say the incident started at approximately 7:10 a.m. Saturday at Addison Road Station where the suspect stole a vehicle.

Metro Police authorities say they were able to track the vehicle to the parking lot of a shopping center on Van Dorn Street in Alexandria by tracking an I-Phone left inside the vehicle.

A Metro spokesperson confirms that when an officer approached the suspect in the vehicle, the man fled the scene and dragged the officer a short distance.  The officer fired a shot but it is unclear whether he hit the man.

According to the Metro spokesperson, the suspect abandoned the vehilce on a ramp leading to the Capital Beltway from Van Dorn Street and continued to flee on foot. Metro Transit Police, Alexandria Police, Fairfax County Police and Virginia State Police are tracking the suspect. 

The suspect is described as a black male, mid-to-late 40s, 5'5", 170 lbs, bald head, facial hair, glasses, black jeans, black t-shirt, possibly wearing a canvas jacket.  The  suspect also has a "growth" on the side of his neck similar to an Adam's apple.
