COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA)-  A Washington D.C. man is under arrest after a pursuit Friday afternoon in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties that resulted in the injury of a trooper, said police.

James C. Gregory, 23, of Washington, was arrested and faces charges of second degree attempted murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $1000, resisting arrest, providing a false statement to police and for committing  numerous traffic violations.

On Friday, police responded to a report of a stolen 2007 gray Honda Accord with Maryland tags which was traveling in the area of southbound I-95 and I-495 in Prince George's County. When a trooper spotted the car, he followed it into the Greenbelt Metro Station where the driver parked.

When the trooper approached the car on foot and ordered the suspect to turn off the engine, the suspect refused and drove away with the trooper in pursuit on northbound I-495. Another trooper joined the chase, and the suspect continued driving, exiting at Baltimore Avenue heading north.

A third trooper, Manuel Moreno, heard the pursuit and tried to place tire deflating devices in the roadway to stop the stolen Honda. The suspect avoided the tire deflating devices, intentionally striking Moreno.

The suspect continued driving, ultimately parking in the 10800 block of Blossom Lane in Silver Spring. Troopers lost sight of the car, but after its description was dispatched, the ar was recovered, and Montgomery County officers saw the suspect in the area of Gatewood Avenue and Burt Mills Avenue. They took him into custody without incident. When he complained of injury, he was taken to Holy Cross Hospital.

Moreno was treated for minor injuries and released.

There is no known motive for Gregory's actions. The investigation is continuing.
