CROWNSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -   Seventy-five firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a single family home in Crownsville, according to a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Dept.

The home in the 1300 block of General's Highway  was engulfed in flames when fire crews were called at about 6:30 Monday evening.  The discovered fire concentrated in the rear half of the building and were told that a victim might still be in the house at that time.

Firefighters from Anne Arundel County, the City of Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy responded to the scene. Firefighters found a 75-year-old man in the basement of the home. He was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis where he is reportedly in critical condition.

No one else was in the home at the time of the fire, according to the spokesperson. Three other persons have been displaced as a result of the fire and are being helped by the Red Cross. The home apparently had been converted into three apartment units.

The damage estimate is $75,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be electrical in nature.
