After giving away 1 million downloads of his Magna Carta Holy Grail through a Samsung phone promotion, Jay-Z managed to sell an additional 527,000 copies in the first week of release, according to preliminary data from Nielsen SoundScan.

The rapper's 13th No. 1 seals his record for the most chart-topping albums among solo artists. MCHG also set a record for the biggest first week ever on Spotify withmore than 14 million album streams.

But the album didn't capture the year's fattest sales week. Jay-Z's tally trails a distant second to Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience, which opened with 968,000, and supplants Daft Punk's Randon Access Memories, which drops to third with its opener of 339,000.

Magna Carta is the fourth Jay-Z album to start with more than a half-million copies and marks his tallest sales week since 2006's Kingdom Come (680,000), according toBillboard.
