FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- Chick-fil-A set a new Guinness World Record with the largest number of people dressed up as cows, officials say.

Northern Virginia Chick-fil-A restaurants asked participants to gather at the George Mason University's Field House dressed as cows on July 2.

A total of 470 people showed up - beating the old record of 298, a Guinness World Record official said.

To be 'counted' as a cow, the fast-food restaurant asked "each participant to wear a one or two piece cow suit with a head piece or decorated hood. All shoes had be black or white to match the cow suit."

The fast-food restaurants asked all participants to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
