Teen Shot, Wounded By Officer Inside Stolen Car In Northeast, DC

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A D.C. police officer shot and wounded a teenager during a stolen car chase, police say. 

The shooting took place on Saturday at about 7 p.m. when officers began chasing a red Dodge Challenger that was taken during an armed carjacking early that morning in Northeast D.C., police said. 

According to police, the car eventually was stopped in traffic at 295 and Benning Road in Northeast. A police officer approached the car on foot and the driver tried to flee onto the sidewalk, striking the officer. 

The officer's partner shot at the vehicle but they continued to flee, police said. 

Three teenagers, one female and two males, were apprehended when they tried to flee on foot. One of the males had a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. 

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital were he was treated for lower body injures and was released. 

The driver was charged with assault with intent to kill, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and assault on a police officer. The other two suspects were charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle passenger, and assault on a police officer.
