WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- Jessica Tyson feels that all guns should be outlawed. While discussing the slayings of 26 students and staff at Sandy Hook elementary in Newtown, Tyson declared that she saw no reason for any average citizen to possess a gun.

Ms Tyler is President of the D. C. area Survivors of Homicides organization. She buried her youngest son Michael Tyler, an Army veteran, back in 1995 after  he was car-jacked-robbed and shot.

This past Sunday her grandson, Jeffery Tyson was shot to death in Southwest DC. "I didn't think I would ever go through this again", she said.

Nardyne Jefferies has become a national advocate for more gun controls; joining New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the stomp.

When she talks about the massacre in Newtown she knows of what she speaks. Jeffries's 16 year old daughter Brishell Jones was one of five young people shot and killed in a drive-by in 2010 that began over a stolen fake bracelet.

Nardyne Jefefries wants an immediate ban on assault weapons. Like the parents from Sandy Hook elementary she reminded me that she too won't have a child to watch opening presents on her upcoming birthday and at Xmas.

Homicides are down in D.C. this year---82 as of Tuesday evening-- compared to 107 at this same time last year--but as former Police Chief Charles Ramsey once told 9News' Bruce Johnson--it's not just the murders that we should be looking at--it's all the shootings, and there are still hundreds of assaults with guns out there.
