FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- The jury heard testimony from the medical examiner and was shown evidence of the brutal murder of 19-year-old Vanessa Pham on the second day of trial.

A detective showed the court a bloodstained black shirt that had slits indicating where she had been stabbed. Dr. Wayne Williams, the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Pham's body, explained in detail the 13 stab and slice wounds she obtained to her body. He told jurors that not one wound was fatal. Pham died from blood loss from deep wounds to her chest, lungs and neck. She also has numerous defense wounds on her hands and legs.

Jurors also saw for the first time the bloody knife blade that resulted in the death of Pham.

Julio Blanco Garica, 27, is charged with first-degree murder in Pham's death. Authorities say Garcia approached Pham at a Falls Church shopping center on June 2010 with his infant daughter and asked for a ride to the hospital. Prosecutors say Garcia got upset when Pham made a turn down a one-way road and stabbed her multiple times. Garcia's defense attorneys said he was high on PCP and was hallucinating.

On Tuesday, the defense aimed to prove that the attack was not planned. No valuables were taken from Pham and there were no signs of rape.

A detective confirmed that the fingerprints on the knife blade and exterior of the sunroof were indeed Garcia's. Fairfax County Detective Derek Hardy said during his testimony that he had no doubt in his mind that Garcia exited Pham's car through the sunroof with his daughter. Authorities say Pham's car ran off the road and flipped on its side after she was attacked

Garcia, a national of Guatemala and an undocumented immigrant, kept his head down during the trial and maintained no eye contact while in the courtroom.

Pham's friends also testified today and described her as an ecstatically happy person, who was enthusiastic about college and her summer job as a nanny.
