Stafford deputies reportedly responded to 1103 Providence Street on July 13 after a reported fall had caused the baby's injuries. Chau told authorities that the baby was running to get a bottle of milk when he tripped and fell on the tile floor. The baby was transported to a hospital and then flown to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Two days later, on July 15, the baby died.
After investigating the case and the cause of the serious injuries the baby had sustained, detectives presented the incident to Special Stafford County Grand Jury on Friday, July 26. The Grand Jury issued indictments against Chau, and Chau then turned himself in on July 29.
The investigation remains ongoing.
