WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A woman from Virginia is one of the 80 people who died after a train derailed in Spain.

The Catholic News Service says Ana-Maria Cordoba was a benefits specialist for Virginia's Arlington Diocese and was traveling with her husband and daughter. Cordoba's husband is in the hospital expected to recover from skull injuries. Her daughter suffered a broken leg and she is listed in stable condition.

Her son had just completed a very long arduous traditional Christian pilgrimage in Spain and the famili had gone to visit him. In fact, many of people who were on the train were heading to the Feast of St. James when the cars derailed.

The DC Archdiocese tweeted Thursday evening, "Pray with us for those involved in the train accident in Spain, especially Ana Maria Cordoba from @arlingtonchurch, who died in the wreck."

Friday, the Arlington Diocese says that friends and colleagues of Ana Maria Cordoba will be praying for her during noon mass at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington, Va.

The Cordobas were on their way to meet their son, who had finished a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

"It's been a very difficult day for staff," said Michael Donohue, spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington. "We've prayed intensely since we learned that she passed and are praying for the family."

Speed was a factor in the crash, according to investigators. Investigators say the 52-year-old conductor is a 30-year employee of the state rail company. CBS News reports that last year he bragged online about running his trains right at the speed limit -- any faster he said he'd be fine.

But investigators are also taking a close look at mechanical failures possibilities there. A speed analyst estimates the train was traveling between 89 and 119 miles an hour. The speed limit on that curve is 50 miles an hour.
