ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of a fire in Allegany County that left a man in critical condition.
The fire took place at the home of Denzel Halbitter, an active member of the Midland Volunteer Fire Department. The home, which is located at in the 19800 block of Lane Avenue, caught fire around 1:20 a.m. Monday
The fire was under control within 20 minutes after approximately 60 firefighters from the Allegany County and West Virginia Volunteer Fire Departments came to the scene. The fire originated in a central room on the first floor and left about $50,000 of damage.
First responders found Denzel Halbitter on the kitchen floor and transported him to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where he is in critical conditional from smoke inhalation injuries.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
