'The Wire' Star Helps Combat Teen Homelessness In Md.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- One of the stars of the award winning television series, The Wire, is taking aim at teenage homelessness. Jermaine Crawford is hosting a special event Saturday to help combat the problem.

Crawford, who is known for his portrayal of homeless teen Dukie Weems, talked to us about Hoops 4 Homeless on Friday. See the interview in the video.

The event takes place on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, Md.  A portion of the proceeds will go to Promise Place, a a 20-bed emergency teen shelter in Seat Pleasant. Promise Place is the only emergency teen shelter in Prince George's County.
