Stolen Shotgun Later Found In Woods But Suspect Still Missing

WHITE PLAINS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Charles County Sheriff's Office authorities say hours after a homeowner noticed his shotgun was missing officers were able to find the shotgun, but they are still looking for the culprit.

According to sheriff's office authorities, on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the 10700 block of Esprit Place in White Plains for the report of a burglary. The homeowner told them he found his sliding glass door broken and noticed a shotgun had been stolen, say authorities. Officers looked for evidence and Cpl. J. Freeman and his police K-9 partner, Brix, joined the search. 

Four hours after the homeowner discovered the burglary, Brix was able to locate the stolen shotgun about 200 yards from the homeowner's house, say authorities. The gun was spotted partially hidden under a duffle bag in the woods, authorities tell us. The homeowner positively identified the shotgun belonged to him, say authorities.
