WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A hail of gunfire that rang out in Southeast D.C. late Wednesday night has left two men dead and a third hospitalized.
Police have identified the two men who died as Anthony Chase, 19, and Eric Leeper, 27, both of Southeast D.C.
Metropolitan Police officers were in the area when a gunman fired at least a dozen shots in the 300 block of Ridge Road, striking three men around 11:39 p.m., officials said.
The officers heard the shots and responded to the scene quickly, where they found one of the victims lying dead in the street.
The two other victims were transported to a local hospital, one with a gun shot wound to the upper body who later died. Police say the third victim suffered multiple wounds to the arm, leg, and buttock, but is expected to survive.
The sound of at least 12 gunshots was picked up by a ShotSpotter listening device in the area.
This is the third shooting with multiple victims reported in Southeast D.C. in the past five days. Two men and two juveniles were shot in the 2700 block of Stanton Road on Saturday.
Three more men suffered gunshot wounds after two suspects fired into a group playing dominos in the rear of an apartment complex around 12:35 Tuesday morning.
