  • WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A local march is forming overnight in response to the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial.

The news broke from Sanford, Fla., late Saturday on the fate of the neighborhood watchman accused in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Dozens in the district, possibly hundreds, gathered to demonstrate in Northwest. DC Police said they had officers with protective gear on standby. They add Secret Service sees a few people gathered by the White House.

Chants of "no justice" are heard with a diverse crowd carrying posters in Northwest.

WUSA9 and WNEW crews report people were getting together after midnight along U. Street and possibly marching their way downtown.

There are possibly plans for more protests Sunday.
