VIENNA, Va. (WUSA9) -- We spotted tweets Tuesday about a Metro train traveling down the wrong track and decided to call WMATA.
A WMATA spokesperson told us that a train that was supposed to head to Vienna was given the wrong code, so when it hit that point in its journey to go to Vienna or to Franconia-Springfield, it went to Franconia-Springfield instead.
Some tweets claimed the move is a safety violation. A WMATA spokesperson called it more of an inconvenience because customers have to get off of the train and get onto another train to get on the correct train.
The WMATA spokesperson says incidents like this one happen occasionally. The spokesperson said she didn't know whether the codes were input by a person or not.
