BURTONSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- A suspected DUI driver is in critical condition after he crashed his vehicle trying to elude police.
According to Captain Jim Daly, spokesman for the Montgomery County Police Department, officers attempted to pull over a man they believed was driving drunk on northbound Columbia Pike (Rt. 29) and Fairland Road around 2:30 Monday morning. The suspect then sped away from police and a brief pursuit ensued. The chase came to a violent end only 2 1/2 miles away when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed in a residential area on Columbia Pike and Blackburn Lane. The silver sedan came to rest on its roof.
Captain Daly says the man behind the wheel was transported to a local trauma center in critical condition, however, he is expected to survive. There were no injuries to officers in the incident.
Drivers in the area should be cautious due to ongoing police activity in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
