WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- DC Taxicab Commission officials announced Friday that they decided to indefinitely suspend the cab driving rights of Sharanjit Singh and Ephream Esheterom.

According to the DCTC, Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested the two men on May 10 and charged with simple assault stemming from an altercation with a third person at a gas station. DCTC officials say Singh and Esheterom were not driving at the time of the incident, but they were both on duty.

Singh and Esheterom received Notices of Suspension on Friday, say officials, for engaging in "inappropriate behavior" while on duty.

DCTC officials say the gas station incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. May 10. The incident started as a verbal altercation and lead to a physical confrontation that was witnessed by another individual, according to officials. Singh and Esheterom had their vehicles blocking a gas pump and apparently refused to move, say officials. When the victim used his cell phone to record the drivers, they pushed and shoved him and grabbed his cell phone, according to officials.

Officials say an ambulance arrived at the scene and the emergency crew treated the victim for his injuries.

Singh and Esheterom are the fourth and fifth drivers to lose their privileges to drive DC taxis since January 2013, according to DCTC.  DCTC says all the drivers failed to notify DCTC of their arrests within five days as required regulations.

The DCTC Chairman Ron Linton said in statement released on Friday... "The behavior of these drivers is intolerable...The Commission intends to use its statutory authority to suspend and possibly revoke the licenses of drivers who engage in behavior that threatens the safety of passengers in DC taxis or the public at large."

DCTC officials say the drivers ahave the option of challenging immediate suspensions at the Office of Administrative Hearings.
