All week we've been talking about Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.
It may be hard to believe, but worldwide road traffic fatalities are the number one cause of death for young people.

Unfortunately, in 2010 that's what happened to Nelson Mandela's 13-year old great grand-daughter in South Africa.

In today's Extra Mile report, our Monika Samtani says out of tragedy the Mandela family brings awareness, and a global campaign right here today in Washington.

It's called the 'Long Short Walk' and you can find out more about taking part in in your community at www.thelongshortwalk.org

Teens and dignitaries from all over the country, and even the world are here in DC for the kick-off of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month kick-off at the Jefferson Memorial today at 9:30am, sponsored by NOYS, the National Organization for Youth safety: www.noys.org
