Student Brings Knife To Md. High School

MORGANZA, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 16-year-old student was arrested and charged for bringing a pocket knife to school on Tuesday. 

St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to Chopticon High School at about 2 p.m. when a teacher noticed a student with a pocket knife, the sheriff's office said in a release. 

The principal and school safety officer went to the classroom and removed the knife from the student without incident, the release said. 

According to the sheriff's office, the student tried to leave the building while in was in the school's main office awaiting the police but was stopped outside by deputies. 

The teen, of Lexington Park, Md., was arrested and charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and disrupting school activities.

The student and teacher were alone in the classroom at the time of the incident, the release stated.
