WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A 28-year-old airman from Woodbridge, Va. was killed in a plane crash in southern Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said.

Capt. Brandon L. Cyr, was one of four airmen killed in the crash of a MC-12 aircraft on April 27, officials said.

The Department of Defense said Capt. Cyr was a KC-135 instructor pilot and a member of the 906th Air Refueling Squadron within the 37th Air Mobility Wing at the Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

"He was an outstanding pilot and a dedicated Airman. Our hearts are heavy, and we're doing all that we can to provide support and comfort to members of his family during this difficult time. Our hearts also go out to families of the other Airmen who lost their lives as well," said Col. David Almand, 375th AMW commander.

The other airmen killed in the plane crash have been identified as:  Capt. Reid K. Nishizuka, 30, of Kailua, Hawaii; Staff Sgt. Richard A. Dickson, 24, of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and Staff Sgt. Daniel N. Fannin, 30, of Morehead, Ky.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation but initial investigations indicate that there was "no enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash," the Department of Defense said.
