WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- I was feeling sorry for AJ Clemente because from where we anchor folks sit, it looked like he'd caught the worst break imaginable.
Sure they tell you from the beginning you gotta treat every microphone like its hot, but only grizzled veterans really know just how sadly true that can turn out to be. Nobody should have to learn such a harsh lesson their first day on the job. But that's part of what makes this such a great story...right?
It was Clemente's very first day at tiny K-F-Y-R in North Dakota. And of course there's Youtube, letting us experience perhaps the most excruciating debut performance ever over and over and over again.
They used to say..there's no such thing as bad publicity, but now I've concluded. The only real publicity is bad publicity. Look, don't get me wrong. After being fired Clemente tweeted, "Rookie mistake. I'm a free agent. can't help but laugh at myself and stay positive."
How can you not root for an attitude like that? And heck, he'll probably get a better job out of all this. But let's be real, had AJ's first day on the job been perfect, none of us would have ever heard of this kid, maybe ever. And now he's going on Letterman.
So why do I feel like there's something weird or odd or wrong with that picture?
