WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A 71-year-old man died on Monday after the trash truck he was driving hit an overpass and caused him to be ejected from the truck, say police in D.C.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police say on Monday at approximately 2:10 p.m., 71-year-old James Harvey Harris of Oxon Hill, Md. was driving a green 1989 Mack roll-off trash truck northbound on South Capitol Street, SE. According to police, at the South Capitol Street and the M Street bridge overpass the bed of the truck hit the concrete and steel overpass. The back of the truck slammed into the pavement and the front of the truck was raised off the ground, say police. This movement caused Harris to be ejected from the vehicle.
Harris was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, say police.
Police say detectives continue to investigate the incident.
