WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Washingtonians can enjoy a different type of model on their runways: Dogs in couture.

Fashion for Paws 7th Annual Runway event at the national Building Museum benefits the Washington Humane Society. Area fundraisers, dog lovers and dogs join together Saturday, April 13, 2013.

The blockbuster fundraiser has raised nearly $700,000 to help pay for the 30,000 animals the Washington Humane Society (WHS) serves each year.

"They (WHS) take care of the neglected animals. And animals that need help. All sorts of spaying, neutering, taking care of them. Making sure it's no kill shelters," said Doctor Alex Naini, F4P runway model and participant.

The models has earned their place in the fashion show by fundraising a minimum of $5,000. In addition, the fashion show would not be complete without four-legged friends walking alongside the models.

The model's walkway has been designed by Syzygy Events International with inspiration from Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs. An emerald green and checkered backdrop faces the audience.

Tyson's Galleria donates the designer duds. The designer doggy couture is organized by Wagtime, a local pet boutique and daycare.

The event honors Congressmen Jim Moran and John Campbell with the 2013 Humane Hero Award. This award recognizes individuals in media, politics and entertainment "who have displayed a passion for animal welfare."

This year's returning host is Ashlan Gorse, from E! News.

Fashion for Paws has raised over $2.7 million since its inception seven years ago. All proceeds benefit the animals at the Washington Humane Society.
