WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A woman was transported to the hospital after being slashed across the head with a knife during an altercation on a DC Metrobus, officials say.

At around 11:42 a.m. on Saturday, two women started arguing on a U-8 Bus, which runs a loop around the Minnesota Ave. Station, on the 4600 block of Benning Road in Southeast, Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel said.

During the altercation, one of the women pulled out a knife and slashed the other across the head. The injured woman was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Stessel said.

The attacker fled the scene before police arrived but officials are looking at surveillance video recorded on the bus to identify the suspect.
