WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations says a 79-year-old man died this weekend after he either fell or inadvertently placed a tractor into gear while leaving it.
According to authorities, police responded to a private farm in Leonardtown on Sunday after receiving a report of an accident. Officers then saw a man lying beneath a farm tractor. He was transported by ambulance to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
BCI detectives later determined 79-year-old Robert T. Jarboe of Leonardtown, Md. was operating his farm tractor when he either inadvertently placed it into gear while exiting it or fell from the tractor while it was in gear causing him to be thrown from the vehicle, say authorities. They believe he then fell behind the tractor and was struck.
The State Medical Examiners Office will perform an autopsy.
