TOWSON, MD (WUSA)--Towson University has decided to discontinue its Men's Soccer and Baseball programs and  will reinstate Men's Tennis.

In a statement posted on the school's website, University President Maraverne Loeschke said that "this was an extremely difficult decision," and that it was made to address three issues facing the athletics department: long-term financial stability and affordability; compliance with Title IX requirements, and the ability to be competitive in NCAA Division I.

The men's soccer program will be discontinued immediately and the baseball program at the end of the season.

The university said it would honor the four-year scholarships offered to student athletes.
