WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA9)-- DC police say they've arrested 29-year old John Solano a science teacher at McKinley Technology High School in northeast D.C.
According to police they were made aware of allegations claiming Solano was sending and receiving sexually explicit photos with male students on Friday. That same day just hours later he was arrested and charged with the production of child pornography.
DC Police spokeswoman Gwen Crump said ,"we take these allegations very seriously."
DC public schools issued the following statement:
"This afternoon a teacher was arrested at McKinley Technology High School. The teacher was immediately put on administrative leave. We are working closely with MPD and other law enforcement to ensure that the right steps are being taken to support our students and keep them safe. We are deeply unsettled about this incident. Student safety is our top priority. We are taking the appropriate measures to help support our students through this difficult time. We will continue to work with MPD and we will provide additional pertinent communications to our parents and school community. All questions related to the specifics of this case should be directed to MPD."
DC police investigators are asking anyone who may have additional information on the allegations against the 29-year old to give them a call.
