SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- According to police, dozens of seniors have been victimized by telephone scammers in recent weeks in Fairfax County, Va.
In the latest scam, police say victims are receiving calls from someone pretending to be from a utility company, delivery service or sweepstakes, who say the resident's service will be discontinued unless they pay by phone immediately.
Police say residents should not give out, or verify, financial information over the phone, and to make sure to verify legitimacy of companies requesting funds.
If you think you may have been victimized, police say you should make a report at the Fairfax County Police Citizens Reporting System.
