Giant Food Recalls Several Bird Treats Due To Salmonella

LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA) -- As a precaution, Giant Food has recalled several varieties of bird treats produced by Kaytee Products due to possible salmonella contamination in the parsley flake ingredients.

The following products are included in this recall:

  • Kaytee Parakeet Honey Treat Value Pack 7 o.z., UPC 7185955027, with best before codes of 12/4/2013 - 8/2/2014
  • Kaytee Parakeet Honey Stick 3.5 o.z., UPC 7185900431, with best before codes of 12/6/2013 - 5/29/2014

Giant Food says they have received no reports of pet or human illness, but the product could be potentially harmful to birds or to humans who have or will handle the pet products.

Customers who have purchased the product should throw away unused portions or bring their receipt to Giant Food for a full refund, says Giant Food officials.
