WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A memorial for the "Godfather of Go-Go" Chuck Brown can't be complete without music.

The Chuck Brown Memorial is an intimate music pavilion that will sit inside Langdon Park in Northeast, according to Michael Marshall, president and design director of Marshall Moya Design.

Marshall Moya Design holds the winning concept for a space dedicated to celebrating and showcasing local talent.

"It's really about DC. It's really about how we can help contribute to their growth, to their innovation in music, and it's a type of thing that Chuck Brown lived for," Marshall said.

"He put us on the map with the type of music that wasn't here before."

Marshall is a native Washingtonian.

"Personally, this is a great honor to do this project. I grew up in the Langdon area. I went to Langdon Elementary School. I lived three blocks away from this site. I used to play in this park as a kid. We would have bar-b-que with my grandparents and my parents and aunts and uncles."

Some neighbors near Langdon Park have expressed concern about potential noise.

But Marshall's design firm plans to build a man-made hill to help keep the noise contained within the 150-seat pavilion.

The winning design captured the hearts of Chuck Brown's children, the Mayor's Office and the Department of General Services.

The next phase of the plan is to work with the community to firm up the design details.
